Are you on my mailing list? I’m going to be nurturing subscribers through the spring season and you don’t want to miss out. Here’s a peek at this week’s newsletter:
Happy Ostara, fellow souls!
Today, I’m spending time embracing spring energy, whether spring seems to be intent on testing me or not.
Mercury may be retrograde, tonight’s full moon may be in Libra (which makes the Taurus in me flustered and graspy for guarantees), and my house may smell like skunk because my dog is completely oblivious to stranger danger in the form of not-dogs with big white stripes, but the rune for this time of year (Berkana) and the energy of Ostara (the pagan observance of the spring equinox) remind me to take a moment to recognize where I am now and where I was, so that all the seeds I plant from this point in the year will be grounded in understanding my gifts and my needs.
I’d like to encourage you, as you step into a new season, to give thought to what kind of garden you’re tending, what state the soil is in, and what climate you’ll be planting all of these new seeds in. Don’t skip over this season of inventory in your eagerness to see the fruits (and vegetables) of your upcoming summer labor.
How can you do this? I call it a spring inventory, rather than spring cleaning. Here are the steps I’ll be following myself this evening and in upcoming days, which are a great place to enter this particular season:
- Create a list of the areas of your life (career, family, friends, health, play/creative, spiritual/soul, home/hearth). These all make up your garden to varying degrees and they all require some amount of your time and energy. Looking at ALL of them, not just the ones you’re excited to launch into, is important perspective.
- Spend time looking at each area, journaling, and reflecting on where you’re at with each of these areas. What’s happened, wins & losses, which areas are stable and well-managed, which areas need immediate attention, which areas are murky versus clear in terms of next steps.
- Spend some time thinking about the energy you have and how much you’re likely to have during this upcoming season. When you look at your garden as a whole and consider every section, does this change what portion of your energy you have to give to thing you’re most excited about? Did you remember to allot time and energy to walking your adorable dog or washing your dishes?
- Draw some cards or ask an oracle/spirit ally about the things you need to know going into this season and how you can be supported AND supportive as you navigate spring. Journal, make lists, take notes, draw more cards or ask more questions if clarity is needed in these next couple of days.
That’s it. This entire season is about the rest, so don’t try to jump straight into planning tonight, supermoon or no supermoon. You’ve got time.
This season is the morning of the year. You’re waking up from winter. Stretch a bit. Look around. Go take a pee and start the coffee before you launch. The day will wait, and you’ll be more present for it if you take the time to enjoy and embrace the morning.
Make sense? If it doesn’t, I love working one-on-one with people who are navigating this transition. Reach out and I can guide you through it.
If it does makes sense, or you’re at least willing to give it a try, let’s talk next week about what you do with all of the information you’ll be gathering in the upcoming days. I’d love to take you along with me for the ride, because this is possibly my favorite season.
